You Understand What A Team Means When You Participate In A Relay Race
Have you ever participated in a relay race? If you have then it is an experience that you will never forget for the rest of your lives. It can change your life in more ways than I could describe here. But the least it will do is to make you aware exactly what it means to be in a team and to do all it takes not to let your team mates down.

This does never guarantee that your team will win the relay race all the time. The more important thing is that each member of a relay team has given his best coordinated effort. What suffices is that each member of a relay race team knows his role well and performs to the best of his ability. Further, participation in a relay race, regardless of the end result, makes you cherish your relationship with your team members.

As a relay race team member you always retain in your mind a heightened feeling of the importance of the team as a whole unified entity. Moreover, on an individual plane you feel you have no individual identity left apart from the specific role you have been trained to play in the team.

Participating in a relay race as a team member makes you very much aware of the importance of each member's role in it and all aspects connected with the race. You become aware that despite you being a very fast runner, your team may lose the race if you simply fail to pass on the baton to your colleague in time or drop it during the transfer.

It also makes you very much aware of playing by the rules of the race and also of all the various different aspects that can scupper the best efforts of all your team members to win the race. Sometimes what happens is that you may pass on the baton to your colleague even before your leg of the relay race is fully completed.

Otherwise too, if you try to run in a lane inner to the one you have been assigned, it can mean curtains for your team. In any of the above two cases, it will mean a foul and a disqualification for your team, even if it may be leading by a significant margin till that stage.

The very nature of a relay race makes it apparent to your team members and to those of your competing teams that the fastest runner among the members in a team must run the last leg of the relay race. Further, it makes you aware that your team can only win a relay race only when on any given day, man to man, each member of your team runs faster than any of the competitors.

Not only these two aspects, it is also the coordination and sense of anticipation while passing the baton that is of utmost importance in a relay race. No wonder, a relay race best invokes in you what participation as a team member exactly means.
