Different Types Of Team Roles
A person may be required to perform different roles while working as part of a team. He may simply be a doer of what he is best equipped to and as much as his talent for a specific role allows him to perform. On the other hand, a team member may be required to perform the role of a master strategist or what is known traditionally as the thinking cap of the team.

A carer is another type of role player that a team person may be required to perform in the garb of the team coordinator and harmonizer. And, then you have the team leader's role that everybody wants to have for the praise, credit, and power it provides when the team does well overall. However, no one wants to be in the team leader's shoes, when the team does badly.

Your chances of selection in a team increase if you are able to don various different caps depending on the situation. In essence it means that if your talent is good in different types of role playing, your value to the team increases multi-fold. If you are the only talent available playing the role of a specialist in one specific position or area of expertise, then too the chances of your inclusion in a team increase substantially.

In certain types of situations, you may need to be task oriented for meeting the goal of team success. In certain others you may be required to be relationship oriented for the goal of team success to become a reality. At times a team member may be required to play the role of an analyst to find where exactly the team is lacking and how to improve the targets achieved.

Your teamwork style depends on your attitude towards your job. If you like to be solely task oriented then you are a doer. If you worry as much about your interactions with other team members as much as the work you are specifically involved in you can be a good coordinator for the team. To some people leadership of the team comes easily and they can influence team members greatly and pinpoint the improvements that will straightaway positively impact team success. Such individuals have the basic ingredients of a team leader in them.

Some individuals can objectively analyze the team's working relationships and associated processes. They can accurately forecast team success based on following plan A in one situation and plan B in an alternative scenario. Such individuals can play the master strategist team role to perfection or be the team's resident analyst staff member.

Uniting various different talented team members imbued with diverse backgrounds and attitudes is the role that a team coach or manager can play. He is the man who can stay on the fringe and still create and maintain the tempo of success in team members by his careful worded encouragement or advice to them. He is the one talent sought to improve the standards of a fallen team.
